Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type: Using Rhythmic Speech in Part of a Children’s Book

Parts of many children’s books can be read rhythmically (rather than the entire book). These books can provide opportunities for experiencing beat/no beat as well as other musical elements (such as dynamics, timbre, and rhythm) and skills (such as vocal manipulation and playing body percussion). By listening to and participating in reading of a children’s book, students will experience various literacy standards and skills including comprehension; identifying beginning, middle, and end; communicating verbally; and vocabulary.
