We use the arts to change learning – and change lives.

What is arts integration?

The Kennedy Center defines arts integration as an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process that connects an art form and another subject area, allowing them to meet evolving objectives in both.

Arts integration is designed to be a joyful, active and memorable learning experience. Incorporating the five recognized arts disciplines — visual arts, dance arts, theater arts, music arts and digital media arts — an arts integrated curriculum aligns with common core standard practices and fine arts standards. The arts become an approach to teaching, as well as the vehicle for learning.

Methodology: Our approach

Collaborative Assessment

All our partnerships begin with an initial needs assessment that represents a collaboration between ArtsNOW leadership and school administration.

Customized Planning

Then, we move into administrative planning sessions, developing a proposal to address immediate needs, as well as a multi-year plan to align ArtsNOW with the school-wide mission.

Service & Support

Finally, our partners receive ongoing service and support through consultations, onsite visits and virtual support. Partners are granted full access to online ArtsNOW materials.

Services: Creativity through collaboration

Known for our collaborative approach and research-based methods, ArtsNOW offers customized, immersive programs and professional learning for educational organizations of all sizes.

We engage with educational organizations in three ways:

Partnerships

ArtsNOW helps pre-K through 12 educators and administrators identify critical learning gaps and creative solutions to solve them. Then, with the help of our consultants and teaching artists, we develop customized professional learning plans to address those gaps for educators and advance student achievement.

Professional
Learning

We offer a series of seminars, workshops and one-on-one sessions with our teaching artists and consultants, each focused on fine arts and core content standards. All participants leave equipped with strategies and best practices for integrated instructional design and delivery.

Pacesetter
Programs

ArtsNOW has created customized extensions to students’ classroom learning known as Pacesetter Programs. These STEAM camps and extended learning programs provide interactive, integrated instruction to inspire continued academic and personal growth.

ArtsNOW Partner Schools

These are schools that are at varying places in their arts integration journey. Each school is working to ensure that the arts are embedded as part of their culture. Some schools have a specific focus or grade level, while other schools have a school-wide focus. All are working in partnership with ArtsNOW to advance their local school plans.

Case Study: Barrow County

ArtsNOW and Barrow County have worked side-by-side to forge a true partnership in arts integration and integrated learning in grades pre-K -12th. This decade-long initiative has played a key role in transforming not only education in Barrow County, but also transforming the surrounding community. With the establishment the Center for Innovative Teaching (CFIT), ArtsNOW established regional offices, grew its signature residency program through middle and high school and was instrumental in the design and development of both the Barrow County Art and Innovation Magnet (AIM) program and the newly opened Barrow Arts and Science Academy (BASA) for grades 9-12.

“More than just an educational partnership, this initiative has been a labor of love for the ArtsNOW organization and my team at BCSS. This is the perfect example of how the immersive, tailored approach and methodology of ArtsNOW brings learning to life through our teachers for the students, their families, and our community.”Dr. Chris McMichael, Superintendent, Barrow County School System
